Landed Gentry examines the issues of class and race in Jamaica,
mainly through the eyes of a local taximan (cab driver), Dezzie, who has just
won millions in the lottery and has decided to "step up in life". The "old money",
intent on keeping out this "crude and uppity new money" gets up to its age-old
tricks of alienation and humiliation. In the end, Dezzie's one last hope to regain
his squandered money lies in the fate of a stubborn horse. In the broader sense,
mankind's passionate love/hate affair with the horse is thrown up to inspection.
As the race heads towards the homestretch, who will make it to the wire?
